Steven Pinker, a professor of cognitive thinking and author of the book Enlightenment Now The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress, recently spoke on TED, providing his intellectual insight as to whether the world is getting better or worse as he looks at the numbers.
I was somewhat taken back, though I shouldn’t be, by his methodical optimism which gazes through rose-colored glasses at the state of our world, stepping through his testable hypothesis to measure human well-being, all the while stepping over or around the cracks in the sidewalk which fall in between. His conclusion is that yes, things in the world are getting better, and while I cannot argue with his data points, they do not paint the whole picture.
Natural cannot perceive or understand spiritual.
The democracy experiment has over the short course of American’s history been a bumpy ride but has held together against the tugs and strains of the human heart remarkably well. But structural fatigue has long set in which will ultimately lead to catastrophic failure. Some of it is apparent if you look for it and you know what to look for, others require a more detailed approach using mental and spiritual radiography.
While acknowledging that today, 2/3 of the world’s population lives in a democracy, a measurable point for his hypothesis, the nuances associated with the effectiveness of those democracies and its inherent problems, much less easy to measure, is ignored.
Looking to the east, my eyes fall upon the shoreline of Britain and the rest of Europe, what you might call the womb of the United States. It is there where we find the roots of our republic and where we can trace our social and political DNA. Beneath the surface, hidden away, spiritual tumors are forming, products of the structural fatigue of sin and the rejection of our Lord and Savior. As they metastasize, the symptoms are becoming more pronounced, more evident.
One of the latest symptoms is this world beset on a Minority Report/Thought Police agenda, where laws are being created and implemented around the world at a frenzied pace. So-called democracies of freedom loving people are taking a page out of the worst of the dictator’s manual, arresting, prosecuting and punishing people for something that was once cherished in the world, the freedom of speech.
That freedom is under attack like never before. The enemy flows like a poison out of the cesspools of our colleges and universities, sweeping downstream and ultimately drowning any sense of right and wrong in many of our students. Free speech is a threat to those who wallow in the darkness of sin, attempting to bring light where none exists or belongs.
We have had many fall prey to this insidiousness and it will only get worse. In fact, it will become so bad that one day, in the near future, people by the millions will be arrested, charged and executed for their beliefs and their refusal to take the mark on their hand or on their forehead.
While we are not there…yet…the groundwork is being laid, everywhere.
Just this past week, a man by the name of Tommy Robinson, a political activist in Britain was arrested, convicted, sentenced and imprisoned for the crime of disobeying a court order. Refusing to stay away from the courthouse in Leeds, Tommy stood outside, filming and questioning the accused as they entered the building. The accused were part of a so-called “grooming gang”.
According to the reporting in the National Review, these gangs, most often attributed to Pakistani men, have been found over the course of the last ten years or so to have raped young, often underage, white girls.
This monstrous phenomenon of mass rape has apparently been confirmed multiple times by judges and the most mainstream investigative journalists in the country according to the National Review. The story goes on to say that Tommy Robinson, after his arrest, was brought before Judge Geoffrey Marson, who in under five minutes, tried, convicted, and sentenced Robinson to 13 months. He was immediately taken to prison.
I suppose there are those who believe, the judge being one of them, that Tommy’s refusal to heed his previous warning erased the need for any further due process.
This swift and oppressive action by the court cannot be viewed in any manner other than what it is. Tyranny. It has arisen of the hearts of men and women who insist on calling darkness light.
I have included the audio from Fox News as Tucker Carlson, Katie Hopkins and Nigel Farage discuss this outrageous story.
The spiritual problems of the world are bringing us to a stage 4 condition, requiring immediate intervention by the Great Physician and Judge, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Whatever your thoughts of Tommy Robinson and his decision to refuse to stay quiet as he watches his nation fail to stand up to the evil tides sweeping its shores, what happened to him is a travesty and provides yet further evidence as to how close we are to the end of this age. And to Professor Pinker, as tyranny creeps in, taking hold of our precious democracies, I would suggest that you go back to the drawing board.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 ESV
